Alex got to go on his first camping outing! We went with our cub scout pack to Heritage Reservation in Farmington, PA. At first I wasn't sure if I would make it with the sleeping arrangements, but it turned out to be okay. Every morning we woke up and went to the flag ceremony before breakfast, then went to either aquatics, sports, ecology, crafting, or service learning. We had a small hike to the dining hall, but we enjoyed nature and chatting with friends along the way. We had some rain on the first day, but thankfully we were in the aquatics session so we were wet anyway. In the aquatics sessions, we got to either go fishing, boating, or swimming. Alex tried it all, even fishing off the boat. In the sports sessions we played ultimate Frisbe, in field sports Alex shot BB guns and Archery. Alex loved Archery the most and we didn't even make it to Sling Shot and Climbing. In the Ecology class, we explored nature, made a honor neck less and carved soap in crafting, and collected fire wood and learned how to build a good campfire in the Service Learning. At each session the kids earned beads to go on their honor neck less. On the last day there was a Sponge War in the fort. Water plus sponge plus scouts equals a whole lot of fun!
At meal time, we all took turns setting and cleaning the table. Alex and I did a couple of lunch times where we had to report early and set everything up for our table. We had to be waiters and get the food for our pack, then wipe the table, put up the benches, sweep and mop after the meal. Overall this was a great learning experience for Alex and a lot of fun!
